If you need to export Wix website pages you own, you do not need a developer. Make a copy of the published pages as files. Then put those files on a host and point your domain at them.
This guide is for non-technical Wix owners. If you're thinking about leaving after a plan or billing mess, or you just want to own your site again, it's for you.

TL;DR
Export Wix website pages, host the copy, then cancel Wix.
- Get a ZIP copy of your site
- Open the copy on your computer and check it
- Find a new home for it, such as Netlify or Vercel
- Point your domain at the new site
- Cancel Wix
Why you should export Wix website pages
Wix can change a plan, change billing, or make the editor harder to use. If the site is how people find you, you want a copy that does not depend on that account.
A copy of the live pages is a backup. You can put it online somewhere else. You can keep the look of the site while you sort out the rest. You do not have to stay on Wix only to keep the public pages up.
What you get in the ZIP
You get your live published pages as files. That means HTML for the pages, plus the images and styles a visitor already sees.
They arrive in a ZIP. Unzip it and you have a folder of the site.
The ZIP is a snapshot of the live site on the day you export. If you later change the Wix site, those changes will not appear in the old ZIP. Export again if you want a fresh copy.
What does not come with you
Wix runs extra tools on its own servers. Those tools do not move into the ZIP.
- Forms. The form may still look like a form. New messages will not land in a useful place. Use a form service, or put an email link on the page for now.
- Store and checkout. Product pages can copy as pictures and text. Cart, payment, and orders stay with Wix. Keep a shop tool if you sell things.
- Bookings. Marketing pages can copy. The calendar and payments do not. Keep a booking tool.
- Member areas. Public pages can copy. Logins, private pages, and member lists do not. Keep a member tool, or drop members if you no longer need them.
- Blog and CMS editing. Published posts can copy as normal pages. You do not get the Wix editor or a dashboard for new posts. You can still change those pages in the files, including with an AI assistant.
- Wix apps. Chat, restaurants, events, and other apps stay with Wix. Replace the ones you still need, or leave them off the new site.
Before you cancel, download anything you still need from the Wix dashboard. Contacts, invoices, order lists, and booking records often have their own export buttons. Save those files separately.
How to export a Wix website
To export a Wix website, make a copy of your live published pages as files. Use the public site people already visit, not the Wix editor.
- Open your live Wix site and note the pages you need. Write down the homepage, about, contact, and any other URLs that matter.
- Make a copy of those published pages as files. Export Your Site is one way to create that copy.
- Open the copy on your computer and click through it. Check the homepage, a few inner pages, photos, and the menu.
- Keep the ZIP somewhere safe, and keep a second copy you can find later.
Where to put the files next
You need a host that can show a folder of HTML files. You do not need to build an app.
A friendly path is Netlify Drop. Unzip the ZIP. Open Netlify Drop. Drag the unzipped folder onto the page. Netlify gives you a temporary web address. Open that address and click around once more.
When you are happy, point your domain at that new site. Netlify walks you through connecting a domain with on-screen steps. For more hosting options in everyday language, see how to self-host your website.
Keep the Wix site online while you do this. The old site is your fallback if something looks wrong.
When to cancel Wix
Cancel only after all of this is true:
- The new site is live on your real domain.
- You have moved or replaced forms, shop, bookings, members, and apps you still need.
- You have saved invoices, contacts, and any other records you might need later.
If your domain is registered with Wix, pointing it at the new host and moving the registration to another company are two jobs. Pointing can happen as soon as the new site is ready. Moving the registration can take extra days, and Wix may make you wait about 60 days after you registered the domain. You can leave the domain at Wix and only change where it points.
Copy first. Go live. Then cancel.
FAQ
Can I export a Wix website without a developer?
Yes. Copy the live pages as files, click through the copy on your computer, then put the folder on a host.
What is inside the ZIP?
Your published pages as HTML, plus images and styles. The ZIP holds those public files so you can host them yourself.
Will my shop, forms, or bookings still work?
No. Those stay with Wix. Set up a form service, a shop, or a booking tool before you take the old site down.
Do I need to cancel Wix on the same day?
No. Leave Wix running until the new site is live on your domain and the extras you need have a new home.
What if I registered my domain with Wix?
You can still use that domain on the new host. Point it at the new site first. Transfer the registration later if you want to, once you are live and not in a rush.
Can I change text after I download the files?
Yes! You can make small changes yourself. For bigger changes, ask an AI assistant like ChatGPT or Claude to help, or hire a developer.
There is a Wix export page for copying published pages.
